The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are practically eliminated from the playoffs race in this season's Republic Bank Men's CPL. Despite playing 8 matches and earning 4 points in their first season, the new franchise only has 2 games left with a total of 4 points available, which will not be sufficient to secure a playoff berth.
The Falcons possess significant potential and were expected to be more competitive than they currently are. A few outcomes did not go in their favor; some may argue that they squandered opportunities for victory from advantageous positions, particularly in the initial two matches against The Patriots and The Warriors, both of which were decided in the final over. The Falcons faced insurmountable challenges against The Royals and The Kings, leaving them with no chance of success. However, they secured a historic victory in their first home game against TKR, earning their first 2 points of the season. Subsequently, they swiftly redeemed themselves against the Patriots, but suffered defeats against the Saint Lucia Kings and the unbeaten Barbados Royals..
There are many positive to highlight from this campaign
Jewel Andrews, this young man has a bright future ahead of him and once he keeps his head on, he will be a great batsman for the West Indies senior team. He has been a bright spark for the Falcons and showed great intelligence with the bat.
Justin Greaves, another debutant who has a couple of top scores under his belt, was promoted to open the batting for the Falcons and has not disappointed, showing great mental strength when the match gets tense and nervy.
Springer has definitely come into his own this season. He is showing he has what it takes to compete with top international cricketers. He has the backing of his captain, Chris Greene, and his Coach, Sir Curtly Ambrose.
Cricket is back in Antigua. There was a huge buzz on opening night for the first game as a CPL franchise. The fans were out in their numbers doing their part to support the home team. Antigua and Barbuda were waiting for this moment and they were great hosts, providing a vibrant atmosphere.
The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are scheduled to face TKR tonight at the Queens Park Oval in a highly anticipated match for TKR. The Falcons aim to finish the season strongly and achieve a double victory over TKR.
